Daily Deviation

Given 2007-04-16
Tension shows a great concept, perfectly executed. Excellent tones and composition. These types of descriptions come to mind again and again looking through *Transposure's gallery. ( Featured by scottb )

:+fav: It's such a pure image, if you know what I mean, it's a shame the watermark has to be there to distract from it. Of course, I understand your reasoning and I'm not asking you to take it off if you're not comfortable. Still, WOW. Nice work.

whats wrong with the watermark?

A watermark that doesn't destroy the image? Nothing. Watermarks that destroy the image? Everything. A watermark should be a signature, something that does not detract from the art. Creating something magnificent and then defacing it is insanity. I don't see how any true artist can do such a thing. It should be illegal.

stealing pepoles images is illegal - still pepole do it.

i think watermark's are a neccery evil.

The watermark doesn't stop theft...it can still be removed. It just destroys an image as art and makes it a mockery. :(

it makes it harder for the theifs to pass of as there own work.

i could see what you were saying if it was in context to some one after having taken a photo enscribing the said water mark on the negs/trancparencys - but this isnt even a print - its a jpeg on the net. so no - i dont think it destroys the images as art.

it might be just me - but i can still appreciate this image with or without water mark.

The jpg is the art hanging in the gallery that is deviantArt...so yes, it is destroyed as art. You can put invisible watermarks in images that in no way degrade the image at all, and that the thieves won't even know is there, and you can point to that watermark if a question of origin ever comes up. If I remove a visible watermark from an image then claim it as my own, how do you prove it is yours without jumping through a lot of hoops? If you can just say "Check the image, there will be an embedded watermark saying "Pop goes the weasel" (or whatever you want) in that image" then you erase all doubt...especially if the thief didn't even know it was there. There is no reason in the modern world to destroy the art you are trying to protect. If you care so little for your art, don't make it in the first place.

fair enough - you think that a water mark destroys a image - then explain why companys like magum put large watermarkes on there images on the net and still make massive amounts of sales?

if (like you say) a water mark degrades a image then you cant appreciate it properly, right? - so why do pepole still buy images from pepole like magnum if they can appreciate them on the screen to know they like them first?
